The Bible teaches that you can know for sure that your sins are forgiven, that you have eternal life, and that Heaven is your home. God has made the way of salvation clear in His Word.

The following verses from the book of Romans explain God’s simple plan of salvation.

Everyone Needs Salvation

Romans 3:23 — “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Every person is a sinner. No matter how good, religious, or sincere we may be, we have all broken God’s law and fallen short of His perfect standard.

Sin Has a Penalty

Romans 6:23 — “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The Bible teaches that sin brings death and separation from God. We cannot remove that penalty through good works, religion, church membership, baptism, or anything else we can do ourselves.

But God offers something we could never earn: the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ Paid the Price for Our Sin

Romans 5:8 — “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

God loves you. Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, took your place on the cross and paid the penalty for your sin with His own blood. He died, was buried, and rose again so that you could be saved.

Salvation Is by Grace, Not Works

Romans 11:6 — “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace.”

Salvation cannot be earned. It is not something we deserve or achieve by becoming good enough. Salvation is entirely by the grace of God.

Salvation Comes Through Faith

Romans 4:5 — “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”

To be saved, you must stop trusting in yourself, your good works, or religion and place your faith completely in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible calls us to repent toward God and believe the Gospel—turning to God with a change of heart about our sin and placing our faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ

Romans 10:9–10 — “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Salvation is not simply knowing facts about Jesus. It is personally believing on Him—trusting that He died for your sins and rose again, and depending upon Him alone to save you.

God Saves All Who Call Upon Him

Romans 10:13 — “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

God’s invitation is for whosoever will come to Him.

You can call upon the Lord right where you are. Prayer itself does not save you—Jesus Christ saves you. But you can come to Him in faith, admitting that you are a sinner, believing the Gospel, and asking Him to save you.

There are no special words you must say. You might simply pray from your heart:

“Lord, I know that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins, was buried, and rose again. I repent and place my faith in Jesus Christ alone. Please forgive me and save me. Amen.”

The words of a prayer do not save. Salvation comes by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

You Can Know You Are Saved

God does not want you to spend your life wondering whether you have eternal life. When you place your faith in Jesus Christ, you can rest in the promises of His Word.

Share the Good News
